Privacy Notice

EU Verifier is designed to minimise data handling. The format checking tools on this site run locally in your browser — identifiers you type are not transmitted to EU Verifier's servers. This notice explains what data may be processed when you use this site, the legal basis for any processing, and your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Who is responsible for your data?

EU Verifier is an independent reference site. For the purposes of this privacy notice, the operator of EU Verifier acts as data controller in respect of any personal data processed through the site. Contact details for the controller are available on the About page. Requests relating to your data rights should be directed there.

What data EU Verifier itself collects

EU Verifier does not operate user accounts and does not require you to register or log in to use any feature. The identifier format checks (VAT, EORI, LEI, UK VAT) run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The numbers or codes you enter into the tools on this site are not transmitted to EU Verifier's servers and are not stored or logged by EU Verifier.

When your browser loads pages on EU Verifier, standard web server logs may record your IP address, the page requested, your browser type, and the date and time of the request. This is a normal function of web server infrastructure and is not used by EU Verifier to identify or track you as an individual. Log data of this type is typically retained for short periods for security and operational purposes and is not shared with third parties except as required by law.

Consent and advertising data (Google AdSense)

EU Verifier displays advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may process data about your device, browsing behaviour, and interests to deliver and measure personalised ads. The legal basis for this processing is your consent under GDPR Article 6(1)(a). Consent is collected through a Consent Management Platform (CMP) operated by Google Funding Choices, which implements the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF v2.2).

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, a consent notice will be presented on your first visit. You can accept, decline, or customise your choices at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. When you decline personalised advertising, non-personalised ads based only on page context may still be displayed; these require only minimal data processing.

For full details of how Google processes data for advertising purposes, see Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites that use Google services.

Third-party verification services

EU Verifier provides links and guided workflows to official verification services operated by third parties: the European Commission's VIES VAT validation portal, the Commission's EORI validation tool, HMRC's VAT number checker for UK VAT numbers, and the GLEIF LEI search for Legal Entity Identifiers. When you follow a link to any of these services, you leave EU Verifier and interact directly with those third-party sites. Those services are operated under their own terms of service and privacy policies, which EU Verifier has no control over. You are responsible for reviewing those policies before submitting data to those sites.

Google Fonts

This site uses fonts loaded from Google Fonts. Your browser will make a request to Google's servers to download the font files. This request includes your IP address, which Google processes as described in its privacy policy. No personal data is transferred by EU Verifier to Google in this context; the request is initiated by your browser directly.

Your rights under GDPR

If you are located in the EEA or the UK, you have the following rights in respect of personal data where EU Verifier acts as controller:

  • Right of access: You can request a copy of any personal data held about you.
  • Right to erasure: You can request deletion of personal data where there is no longer a lawful basis for its retention.
  • Right to rectification: You can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Right to object: You can object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests.
  • Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting prior processing.
  • Right to lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection supervisory authority if you believe your data has been handled unlawfully.

Given that EU Verifier collects very limited data directly, most data rights requests will relate to data held by Google (for advertising) or by official third-party verification services. Those requests should be directed to those services. For anything relating to data held directly by EU Verifier, use the contact details on the About page.
