Cookie Policy
This page explains what cookies are, which cookies may be set when you visit EU Verifier, and how you can control them. EU Verifier is operated from within the European Union and this policy reflects the requirements of the ePrivacy Directive and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They allow the site or third-party services embedded in the site to recognise your device on subsequent visits or page loads. Cookies are widely used to keep users signed in, remember preferences, measure how a site is used, and deliver targeted advertising. The ePrivacy Directive (implemented in EU member states as national law) requires that non-essential cookies are only set with your prior consent.
Cookies set by EU Verifier itself
EU Verifier is a static website. The HTML, CSS, and JavaScript served by EU Verifier do not themselves set any first-party cookies for analytics, user tracking, or session management. The format check tools on this site run entirely in your browser and do not transmit the identifiers you enter to EU Verifier servers. No login, account, or persistent user state is created.
A consent preference signal may be stored in your browser's local storage or as a cookie by the Consent Management Platform (CMP) operated by Google Funding Choices. This is used to record whether you have provided, withheld, or customised consent for advertising cookies in accordance with TCF v2.2 (the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework). This preference signal is functional and necessary for the site to honour your choices correctly.
Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)
EU Verifier uses Google AdSense to display advertising. When you visit a page that includes an ad unit, Google and its advertising partners may attempt to set cookies on your device. These cookies are used for the following purposes:
- Ad personalisation: Google may use your browsing history across sites to show you ads that match your inferred interests.
- Frequency capping: Cookies help limit the number of times you see the same advertisement.
- Conversion measurement: If you click an ad and later take an action on the advertiser's site, a cookie may attribute that action to the ad impression.
- Fraud prevention: Google uses cookies and device signals to detect invalid traffic and protect the integrity of the advertising ecosystem.
The lawful basis for advertising cookies under GDPR is your consent. If you are visiting from within the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, a consent notice will appear on your first visit. Advertising cookies will only be set if you provide consent. You can withdraw or adjust your consent at any time using the consent management link in the page footer or through your browser settings.
Google's advertising cookies have varying lifespans. Some are session cookies that expire when you close your browser; others are persistent and may last up to 13 months. For a full list of cookies set by Google and their purposes, refer to Google's cookie policy.
Google Fonts
EU Verifier loads fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser requests a font file, Google's servers log your IP address as part of standard web server logging. Google states that this data is not used to build user profiles or track individuals. No cookies are set by the font requests themselves. For more information, see Google Fonts privacy practices.
Your choices and controls
You have several ways to manage cookies:
- Consent tool: Use the consent banner shown on your first visit to accept, reject, or customise advertising cookies. You can revisit this at any time.
- Browser settings: All major browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies. Refer to your browser's help documentation for instructions. Blocking all cookies may affect the functionality of other sites you visit.
- Google advertising settings: You can control how Google uses your data for advertising via Google Ad Settings and the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out.
Cookies on linked official services
EU Verifier links to official third-party verification services including the European Commission's VIES portal, the EORI validation tool, and the GLEIF LEI search. When you follow these links and open those sites in your browser, you leave EU Verifier and interact directly with those services. Their own cookie and privacy policies apply. EU Verifier has no control over, and accepts no responsibility for, the cookies or data practices of those external sites.
Changes to this policy
This cookie policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in applicable law or in the third-party services used by EU Verifier. The date of the most recent revision is shown at the foot of this page. Continued use of EU Verifier after a material change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes affecting your rights, a notice will be displayed on the site.
